Only, ONLY thing that bugs me? “Mos Def” is a GREAT hip-hop name, I don’t care who ya are. Damn shame to just throw it away like that.
El-P is producing Killer Mike’s album?!?!?
Let me repeat that. El-P. Is producing Killer Mike’s album. WOW. I’m surprised that more people’s brains aren’t exploding (in either good or bad ways) over this one. Always been an enormous El-P fan; never really got into Killer Mike, though I did like what I heard. Maybe it’s out of desparation in this wasteland of today’s hip-hop, but I’m really curious and excited to hear how these different universes come together — and if the first track is any indication –daaaaaaaang.
RIP, Heavy D.
Jeez, no disrespect to the other two, but he was probably my favorite openly fat rapper of all time.
willy moon wants to be your man
Naaasty. Between this and Sleigh Bells, methinks the music’s gonna be alright.
But I’m not a rapper…
I’m sure many of you have already seen this; can we talk about how this isn’t just hip-hop? Like, this is AMERICA. Or something.
livin life in the fast lane
Royce needed Eminem to get famous, but Eminem needed Royce to get back to the top of his game. All who were a bit sick of the whining, check for the new Hell joint. Wildly irresponsible and amazingly good.
Also, this video. Forgive all the naughty words and such, but I’ve NEVER seen a better visual approximation of what great rappers do.
Is the Bomb Squad the best hip-hop production team ever?
I’m really thinking so. I’ve found a compilation, and it’s leaving me speechless, really. I couldn’t pick just one, or two. OPEN THE FLOODGATES.
fighting the good fight.
I mean, it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t throw this up. New Beastie Boys Fight for your right slash Make some noise. I haven’t even watched the whole 22 min thing — but here it is.
i grew up on tapes!!!
Wow. “Auto Reverse” by Paten Locke is a pretty good candidate for “theme song for this blog.” This one is staying on repeat…

When you get into a discussion of “greatest producer of all time” — somewhere Pete Rock has to be mentioned. I’m going to say the same about groups and Camp Lo (perhaps a contentious thesis–fear not! I shall defend it in a future post) But for now, enjoy this ridiculously great mixtape from these heavyweights.
